Nurse gave topless massages to patient during 4-month affair
London, Nov 06 : A Brit psychiatric nurse who gave a patient topless massages during a four-month affair has been struck off.
Anne Rogers-Hughes had sex with a 42-year-old patient male patient twice a week at his Shropshire home, the court heard.
The patient, who was injured in a motorcycle accident and suffered from depression, had been her landlord and they met again when he was referred to North-West Shropshire's Community Mental Health Team in May 2007 suffering from depression.
"She was big girl, and I didn't find her attractive," the Daily Mail quoted the patient as saying.
Striking Rogers-Hughes off, panel chairman Lesley White said her actions with the patient, described as "Service User A" were "unworthy of a nurse".
"Her actions impacted not only on Service User A but also his family and partner.
"The registrant has shown little insight into the impact that a sexual relationship would have on the health and well-being of a vulnerable patient and his family.
"This was not an isolated incident, the relationship was maintained over a period of months. Moreover, the behaviour was deliberate," said White.
Rogers-Hughes was found guilty of engaging in a sexual relationship with Service User A between July and October 2007 and failing to notify managers of the affair.

Japanese scientists develop happy teddy bear-shaped nurse robot
Japanese scientists have developed a robot that looks like a huge, happy teddy bear and is designed to lift hospital patients in and out of their wheelchairs and beds.

Named RIBA - short for Robot for Interactive Body Assistance - the android was developed by the government-run Riken research institute and could be deployed in hospitals and retirement homes within three years.
"We have developed RIBA because we want to help caregivers when they are required to transfer patients between hospital beds and wheelchairs," said Dr. Toshiharu Mukai, who heads the research team.

Development took two years and the robot is able to lift a weight of 61 kg on its foam padded arms. Covered in a soft skin designed to protect patients, the robot is also able to recognise faces and voices, as well as responding to up to 30 spoken commands.
The battery-powered robot can operate for up to an hour on a single charge and is more agile and stronger than its predecessor, the Ri-man.
Dr Mukai, who declined to reveal how much had been spent on the research, said he had decided to make RIBA resemble a teddy bear because humanoid versions cause unease in people.
Japan faces a twin crisis of the world's most rapidly ageing population, which is increasing the pressure on the health system, as well as a declining birth rate, meaning that fewer workers.
Anticipating a shortfall in staff within the next two decades, many Japanese firms are carrying out research on electronic employees - which have the added bonus of not requiring a wage and being available 24 hours a day.
Dr Mukai said RIBA will undergoing rigorous testing in hospitals over the next three years and could be available commercially in 2012.

Nurse struck off over sex in jail cell scandal
Nurse struck off over sex in jail cell scandal

A FORMER nurse at Peterborough prison has been struck off after he admitted having sex with a female inmate while her cellmate watched.
City man Brian Curphey was said to have flirted with the unnamed prisoner at the mixed jail in Westwood, before romping with her on a bunk bed.
The 42-year-old claims he was then blackmailed by the inmate and her fellow prisoner, who demanded drugs in exchange for keeping quiet about the fling, and was eventually forced to quit his job after confessing to prison bosses.
However, the newly-qualified nurse still managed to secure work with Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – until being suspended when his past behaviour came to light.
He is now banned from practising in the profession and cannot apply to be re-instated for five years.
A Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) misconduct hearing in London was told Curphey, of Orton Wistow, in Peterborough, had been a qualified nurse for just a few months when he became involved with "Prisoner A" in late 2007.
Luke Clancy, for the NMC, said he had been working as an orderly in the prison's separation care unit and had been flirting with the inmate for "a couple of months".
The illicit tryst took place in her cell after he arrived to deliver medication, the hearing was told.
Mr Clancy said: "Prisoner A came on to him and they had sexual intercourse on her bunk bed in the presence of her cell mate."
Curphey did not attend yesterday's tribunal and has never formally admitted having sex with the prisoner, but extracts from his interviews at Thorpe Wood police station in Peterborough were given in evidence.
"She made sexual advances at me when I went into her cell," he said in his police statement. "She was flirting with me. She was very forward. The next minute we were having sex."
Curphey told officers the prisoner then asked him to obtain drugs including Diazepam and the heroin replacement Subutex, but he refused fearing he would "get into trouble".
The hearing was told the inmate and her cellmate later tried to blackmail Curphey, sending him a note which read: "Give us the drugs, win, win; don't give us the drugs, lose, lose".
"I was disgusted with what I had done but I did have a sexual relationship with her," Curphey said.
